The FIDE Ethics Commission mourns the passing of its member WIM Ruth Haring, who died on the 29th November 2018 at the age of 63.
Ms. Haring, a former US Chess Federation President, dedicated her life to chess. She was at the time of passing, the current Zonal President for the USA Zone 2.1. Ms. Haring proudly represented the US National team at 5 consecutive Olympiads.
Ruth was an active member of FIDE since 1975. She was a regular attendee at FIDE Congresses and served 4 years on the FIDE Verification Commission, from 2010 to 2014. In 2018, she ran for the General Secretary position under GM Nigel Short’s presidential ticket. At the 89th FIDE Congress Ruth was elected by the General Assembly to serve on the Ethics Commission for the period 2018-2022.
She will be missed dearly by the EC Members and the chess community.
